N° AMeasuring by hand

Use a shirt, not a guess.

Measuring a shirt collar from the button to the end of the buttonhole
Neck Unbutton the collar and lay it flat. Measure from the centre of the collar button to the far end of the buttonhole. If you measure your own neck instead, add about 1 cm (½ in) so a finger fits inside the buttoned collar.
Measuring a shirt sleeve from the centre back of the collar to the cuff
Sleeve Lay the shirt face down. Measure from the centre of the back of the collar, along the shoulder seam and down the sleeve to the end of the cuff. On your body: arm slightly bent, from the back of the neck over the shoulder to the wrist bone.

Centimetre values are rounded. Between two neck sizes, take the larger one; a collar that is slightly loose looks better than one that pulls.

N° CCollar guide

Eight collars, and when to wear them

  • C01

    Point

Narrow, longer points. Keeps a slim tie knot in place.

  • C02

    Semi-spread

The middle ground. Works with or without a tie.

  • C03

    Full spread

Wide gap for a fuller knot; frames a broader face.

  • C04

    Cutaway

Points cut back almost horizontally. The most formal spread.

  • C05

    Button-down

Points buttoned to the front. Holds its roll without a tie.

  • C06

    Hidden button-down

Buttons under the points: tidy like a button-down, plain like a point.

  • C07

    Club

Rounded points. A softer, older shape.

  • C08

    Band

Only the collar stand, no points. Worn without a tie.

N° DFit

Tailored or Classic

A man wearing a close-fitting white dress shirt
Tailored Shaped through the waist with back darts. Closer to the body.
A man wearing a roomier pale blue dress shirt
Classic Straight through the body with a box pleat. More room to move.

Neck and sleeve are the same in both fits. If you usually find shirts tight across the stomach or chest, choose Classic.
